My garage door opener was manufactured in 1976. Will a conversion kit work so I can finally have a remote?

I just recently purchased a home and the seller did not have a clicker for the garage. I did some research and have found that opener was manufactured in 1976 and there are no clickers on the market compatible. Would a conversion kit solve this problem or do I really have to replace the entire unit?
