When I get my parakeet...?

I'm getting a parakeet in two months (i'm so excited) and I know that Teflon is toxic to birds. My mom uses Teflon sometimes so what should I do? The parakeet would be in my room upstairs and the kitchen is downstairs. Would it be enough to just close the door of my room? If not, what else could i do? Also, I've heard of clicker training budgies, is that a good idea?
