Horse picks things up but won't hold them(trick)?

I've taught my horse to pick things up to the point where I can point at an object and she'll grab it, pick it up to my height and drop it. I'm stumped on how to teach her to hold onto it. Currently I'm only clicking my clicker when she has it in her mouth but if she drops it immediately, I won't click the clicker. Is this the right way to go or am I doing it wrong? Eventually I'd like her to pick things up and hand them to me like lead ropes and buckets.
